Precision Sensing, Panoramic Insight: Buoy-based Real-Time Multi-Parameter Wave Analytics

Wave parameters are crucial in offshore operations, playing a key role in ensuring both human safety and scientific decision-making. However, a single, holistic wave indicator is insufficient to meet the demands of modern, precision-driven marine activities. This is because the alternating dominance of swells and wind-seas, each with distinct characteristics, exerts profoundly different impacts on marine activities. For example, swells can induce dangerous resonance with vessel hulls, threatening navigational safety, while wind-seas are more influential in nearshore activities and port operations.

To address this, we leverage high-resolution, six-degree-of-freedom motion data measured by the buoy to perform real-time analysis, extracting a wide range of detailed wave metrics. Using an intelligent frequency-domain decoupling technique, we precisely dissect complex wave spectra to generate distinct, high-resolution parameters for wind-sea, swell, and total waves—including height, period, and direction. This enables decision-making with intelligence and scientific insights.
